Miguel Ángel Rojas

Miguel Ángel Rojas is an artist whose extensive career has explored a wide range of themes. His work is distinguished by a strong presence of subjective elements and a thoughtful engagement with both the discourse of art and the issues of his environment. Key concerns in his research include sexuality, ecology, drug trafficking, and its repercussions. Thus, his career is both extensive and deeply rooted in a life context that lends it originality and significant artistic and political relevance.

In addition to addressing self-referential themes through proposals that enable him to engage in a critical and intimate introspection, Rojas has also examined external and contextual themes, such as the political and social realities of his country. His critical and evocative perspective, consistently present in his images, has led him to address the causes and consequences of the armed conflict affecting marginalized communities in Colombia, as well as the environmental damage caused by both legal and illegal extractive companies and the war on drugs. Consequently, Rojas has become a pivotal figure in Contemporary Art in Colombia and Latin America, recognized as a pioneer in current techniques and themes to which he continues to apply keen insight.

"Art is independent of morality, but in my case, due to the motivations from differences and my own experiences, I strive to seek justice through my art. I consider myself a crusader for justice," he states.
