Luisa Pastor: The Newest Addition to La Cometa

Spanish artist Luisa Pastor (Alicante, 1977) has joined the roster of artists represented by Galería La Cometa. Her addition reaffirms the gallery’s commitment to supporting artists whose work stands out not only for its formal excellence but also for its conceptual depth and engagement with social, economic, and philosophical themes.

An Artistic Practice Rooted in Value and Visual Poetry

Pastor brings a solid trajectory and an artistic proposal that moves between visual poetry and a critique of value structures, articulated through a refined aesthetic grounded in materials such as paper, gold, and silver.

Her latest project, “24K. Writings of Difference,” explores the boundaries between economy, language, and aesthetics by manipulating old accounting ledgers. In this series, Pastor painstakingly fragments these documents—some of which date back decades—and intervenes them with 24-karat gold leaf and pure 999 silver, creating abstract compositions that evoke both financial systems and internal landscapes.

By using precious materials, Pastor questions the notion of value in the contemporary world and how hierarchies are built through materiality.

An Exhibition That Marks a New Cycle

“24K. Writings of Difference”, her first solo show at La Cometa, was held at the gallery’s Madrid location in late 2024. Featuring a curatorial text by Alicia Ventura, the exhibition brought together eighteen pieces that are the result of years of technical and conceptual research.

Alongside the paper-and-metal compositions, Pastor included six reinterpretations of the iconic Muisca Raft, a pre-Columbian symbol of El Dorado. These miniatures connect her work to Latin America while reflecting on how different cultures have historically assigned value to objects—from ritual gold to modern capital.

A Global Artist with a Critical Vision

Pastor holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Granada and a Ph.D. in Art from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche. Her multidisciplinary approach—including installation, drawing, sculpture, and object art—has evolved into a research-based practice focused on the invisible structures that sustain our economies, languages, and social dynamics.

Her work has been exhibited at prominent art fairs such as ARCO (Madrid), JustLX (Lisbon), and ARTBO (Bogotá), and forms part of prestigious institutional collections such as Fundación DKV, Fundación Otazu, and other cultural entities. Pastor’s inclusion in La Cometa’s program will strengthen her presence across Latin America and the United States, allowing her unique perspective on art and symbolic systems to reach wider audiences.

A Meaningful Addition to La Cometa’s Vision

Luisa Pastor’s arrival at La Cometa is a natural fit between artist and gallery. With locations in Bogotá, Medellín, Madrid, and Miami, the gallery serves as a bridge between Latin America and Europe, providing visibility to artistic practices that reflect on contemporary life. Pastor’s work, which fuses formal delicacy with conceptual rigor, broadens the gallery’s curatorial horizon and contributes alternative ways of thinking and seeing.

Her inclusion also reinforces La Cometa’s commitment to representing artists who challenge power structures, language, and the body through unconventional materials and articulate their discourse through an aesthetic that is both quiet and incisive.
