Paintings, installations, photography, plants, anime and more, because there is art for everyone in different galleries in the city.
The figures corroborate that art continues to gain ground in the city and that there are more and more artists, more curious people and visitors to the exhibitions.
In 2023, for example, the Museum of Modern Art had 163,072 visitors, the highest number of visitors in the 45-year history of this space. For its part, the Museo de Antioquia registered 232,760.
In addition, the independent galleries have taken art to different sectors of the city, diversifying it and bringing it closer to different audiences. Each one has done its own thing, and together they have stimulated the sector by promoting emerging artists, consolidating others with longer careers and offering new spaces for old artists.
That is why the name of Medellin is increasingly associated with art. And that is also why it is worth including among our daily activities a visit to these places, because they are always proposing, with their exhibitions, new views and reflections to think about ourselves as people, as a city and as humanity.
These are just four of the exhibitions that are open in the city and were inaugurated recently. There are more, but this is a good place to start.
"óðÞëáéïí" (spḗlaion) by Adam Goldstein.
La Cometa gallery
Hours: Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Through July 17.
Goldstein uses neither brushes nor paints. His works are born of rhythm and exploration of materials. "He pours and distributes the dense layers of color over the canvas, giving each work the value of a dance that gravitates from one side of the surface to the other. In this dance, in which light and color are sustained, the viewer's gaze crosses the dimension of the material and manages to connect with the intangible." This is the Bogota-born artist's first exhibition in Medellin.
