Tony Orrico
Tony Orrico is a visual artist, performer and choreographer whose work merges the act of drawing with choreographic gesture and biogeometrics. His works stem from the examination and exploration of his ability to transform his physical and mental endurance into visual compositions.
Orrico has performed in major venues such as the Sydney Opera House (Australia); Teatro La Fenice (Venice, Italy); New York State Theater (US) and Théâtre du Palais-Royal (Paris, France). He was one of a select group of artists to re-perform the work of Marina Abramović during her retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Orrico has performed/exhibited work across the US and internationally in Australia, Belgium, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Mexico, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain. His visual work is in the permanent collection of The National Academy of Sciences (Washington DC, US) and in the collection of the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo MUAC (Mexico City, Mexico). His work has also been presented at the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona (CCCB) (Spain), Centre Pompidou-Metz (France) and The New Museum (New York, US).
In 2020, Orrico was included in the book PERFORMANCE DRAWING: New Practices since 1945, a collection of interviews and essays exploring the relationship between drawing and performance, published by Bloomsbury. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Sculpture & Intermedia, and Dance at the University of Iowa (US).
