MUQU emerges as a personal reflection on humanity's regression, which, despite scientific and technological advances, seems to be lost in indifference toward the essential: the human. "MUQU," which means seed in Quechua—a language of the Indigenous Andean peoples of South America—is the root of life and a call to return to a primordial moment when humanity was only possible through a horizontal relationship with nature.

Fernando Pinto has traveled for years across Colombia, from Bogotá to Vichada, collecting, classifying, and amassing thousands of seeds. The geometry of the seed, which results in radial, bilateral, or spheroidal symmetries, is the direct manifestation of the evolutionary pressures it has undergone: the need for the dispersal of its fruit, the protection of the embryo, and the utilization of its energy reserves. The lines, spirals, and folds on its surface respond to an equation of adaptability and survival: some seeds are polished by the current of rivers, some close to protect a genetic code that will open at the precise moment, and others develop membranous expansions, which, like tiny wings, facilitate dispersal. The variability in their forms influences how each seed interacts with its environment, from its ability to be transported to its viability in different substrates. And thus, in a perfectly imperfect language, mutations favor biodiversity and life.

Each seed contains within it a promise of germination. Through them, nature, in its generosity, speaks to us of faith. It offers millions of seeds to the earth, water, and wind, fully aware of their slim chances of success while hoping to endure through multiplication.

In “MUQU,” Fernando Pinto uses mimesis to reflect on origin, adaptation, resilience, and migration. In a country marked by instability, the act of collecting seeds becomes a profoundly symbolic gesture, connecting us to the migrant's experience: carrying not only a piece of land but also the hope and memory of what we once were, along with the strength of what we can still become.
