Esteban Jaramillo founded La Cometa Gallery two decades ago, and it is now entering a new phase with the opening of a large new venue directly across from its current location. Spanning 1,500 square meters, the building is designed as a white cube—a symbol of the path contemporary art continues to follow. Designed by young architect Daniel Jaramillo, the gallery centers on light and white cube spaces. Featuring two floors, terraces, excellent lighting, a video room, café, sculpture gardens, and an underground parking area, it is the largest and most modern art gallery in Bogotá.
The grand opening is set for July 27 with a solo exhibition by Julio Le Parc, the renowned Argentine artist based in Paris, who hasn't exhibited in Colombia since 1996. In the 1960s, Le Parc co-founded the Visual Art Research Group and became a leading figure in kinetic art. “We joined forces with the Luis Ángel Arango Library, which is also showcasing his work, and with the artist himself, who accepted our invitation to present a retrospective of 60 pieces created over nearly five decades. Additionally, La Cometa Gallery will publish 60 editions of one of his works,” says Esteban Jaramillo.
Titled Before and After Lumière, the exhibition will feature sculptures, paintings, and mobiles in a gallery space conceived in the style of a contemporary art museum.
