Yuliana Bustamante Sosa
Yuliana Bustamante Sosa is a visual artist dedicated to preserving and celebrating artisanal practices, such as panela production, through her work. She focuses on the sugar mills and the traditions surrounding them, exploring how the manual process of creating panela represents a cultural heritage at risk. Through elements such as sugar cane, honey, and bagasse, Yuliana employs photography, sculpture, painting, and installation to evoke the landscapes and laboriousness of the sugar mill trade. Her work highlights the perseverance and legacy of the farmers, underlining the importance of these trades in the cultural identity.
With studies in Fine Arts and currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Antioquia, Bustamante has participated in numerous exhibitions and mural projects in Colombia. The Ministry of Culture has recognized her with the Scholarship of Artistic Creation for Young People, and in 2024, she participated in the binational exhibition “Atravesar el Caribe a la Sombra de una Ceiba” between Colombia and Cuba. Her work highlights the connection between art, tradition, and cultural resistance.
