Manuela Ribadeneira
Manuela Ribadeneira (Quito, Ecuador. 1966) is known for her unique way of producing sophisticated objects that skillfully synthesize a series of narratives through various metaphorical operations, allowing for a critical approach to the present.
Her work is grounded in her interest in history and especially in "microhistories" that she uses as a starting point for creating objects that address how we define, inhabit, and protect our environment. Her long-term projects as a creator and cultural producer embody her desire to enable different forms of conversation. Her works arise from concerns connected to the specific context of their creation, which she generally approaches through scientific curiosity or historical anecdotes, responding to them from personal experience or family memory. This quality of seeking an intersection between the intimate and the political allows her works to go beyond their original context of creation and become thoughts projected in time, giving rise to continuously updated readings.
