Clemencia Echeverri
Since the mid-1990s, Clemencia Echeverri has explored the tensions between violence, memory, and the force of nature in Colombia. Her method begins in the field: on-site research, direct social engagement, and a deliberate use of technology as a critical tool rather than a decorative one. Through drawing, video, photography, video installation, sound, and interactivity, she builds projects that document without narrating, letting the place and its inhabitants dictate the work's final form.
She completed undergraduate studies in Colombia and pursued a postgraduate specialization and Master's degree in Fine Arts at Chelsea College of Arts, London. She taught Art at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the Universidad de Antioquia and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, training generations of Colombian artists in installation and video. In recent years, her video-installation projects have taken part in numerous national and international events, including the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles; the group exhibition La Vuelta at the Musée Les Abattoirs, Toulouse; Medellín: A Colombian Story; the Rencontres Internationales in Paris; Instants Vidéo — 50 Ans d'Art Vidéo, in France; Cosmovideografías Latinoamericanas, in Mexico City; the Liverpool Biennial; For You, at the Daros-Latinamerica Museum, Switzerland; Waterweavers, at the Bard Graduate Center in New York; and the VI Havana Biennial, Cuba. She has also participated in electronic arts festivals such as ISEA, Banquete, and Ars Electronica (Austria), the latter alongside artists Bárbara Santos and Andrés Burbano. She lives and works in Bogotá.
