Carolina Bácares

Carolina Bácares is a visual artist whose work explores the intersections between memory, fiction, the political, the social, and the dichotomy between the natural and the artificial. Her recent work addresses how modernization and progress impact the natural landscape, questioning the notions of catastrophe and ruin from an aesthetic and symbolic perspective. Her work is manifested in graphics, digital art, photography, and installations through the accumulation and selection of photographic, bibliographic, audiovisual, and sound archives.

Trained in visual arts at the Universidad El Bosque and with master's studies at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and the Centro Internacional de la Estampa Contemporánea (CIEC), Bácares has received essential distinctions, including the Creation Grant for Artists of Intermediate Trajectory from the Ministry of Culture in 2023. Her work has been exhibited in multiple national and international exhibitions, including her participation in the 46th National Artists' Salon and her solo exhibition “Zona de Derrumbes” at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bogota in 2024.
