Carlos Castro is a tireless explorer of anachronism. His work is based on the appropriation of historical images and the formal and symbolic recontextualization of found objects. His work explores individual and collective identity, pointing out points of view and narratives ignored in the historical narrative while drawing on historical images and references that are re-signified in the present with irony. His pieces question the hegemonic narrative and its aesthetic referents, who are those who have traditionally been represented and who have been made invisible. Thus, Castro breaks with the known, questions and breaks the past to put it at the service of the poetic image.

One of the recurring lines in Carlos' work is the resignification of images that come from the collective imaginary, to facilitate their reading and appreciation. The national, the military, the monumental and the unofficial history are essential in his search. Castro explores the sarcasm and satire that has been explored since medieval folk art, to take it to modern fears and punishments; to the characters and stories that have created the contemporary myths of a nation.

He is interested in learning about the historical processes and cultural events that have fascinated him. This is why he works with images and objects that have a history in themselves: he sees their timelessness and reconceptualizes them to show how contemporary microhistories can communicate and connect with the great universal history. This method of understanding his context leads him to understand his own sources, his identity, and where he is going; it makes him reflect on his own life.

"I find a contemporary object and link it to something from the past, an exercise that brings out an anachronistic relationship that I find interesting. This object has a charge in itself and allows us to create links between spaces, institutions, contexts and different temporalities".
